THE family of former health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang have asked for privacy following her death, a family spokesperson said yesterday.

"Doctors report that despite every effort by the medical team, Msimang died from complications arising from a liver transplant that she had received in March 2007," Tshabalala-Msimang's son-in-law and family spokesperson Martin Kingston said.

"Dr Msimang's family would like to record their heartfelt appreciation for the extraordinary attention they devoted to Dr Msimang at both Charlotte Maxeke Hospital and the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre," Kingston said.

The family requested that their privacy be respected "at what is a difficult time", Kingston said. - Sapa
