Pledge of better payfor soldiers

THE ministerial commission on defence is confident its recommendations will improve the salaries of soldiers, says its chairperson Lebotsang Bosielo.

THE ministerial commission on defence is confident its recommendations will improve the salaries of soldiers, says its chairperson Lebotsang Bosielo.

The commission was formed to make recommendations for soldiers on matters which fell outside the ambit of the public service.

It was also asked to recommend the establishment of a permanent military commission.

Bosielo said the commission had submitted two interim reports to Defence and Military Veterans Minister Lindiwe Sisulu.

"The commission intends to finalise its reports which will include all other issues dealt with in the second interim report early in 2010," he said.

The minister will submit the report to President Jacob Zuma, who will share the content with Cabinet."

He said the commission was unable to divulge the content of the report because it had not been approved as yet.

Bosielo said the commission was not created in response to the march by soldiers to the Union Buildings in August.

"The minister mentioned the commission in her budget speech vote in July," he said. - Sapa
