WHEN Fifa granted the PSL special dispensation to bring the transfer window period forward because of the shortened 2009-10 season, the move was welcomed by the league and club bosses last month.

The new window period commenced on November 15 and ends tomorrow.

Whereas the league's big guns have not been active in the transfer market, other clubs have strengthened their squads for the remainder of the season.

Moroka Swallows signed household names such as Collins Mbesuma and Siyabonga Nomvethe amid high expectations, but the duo are yet to make an impression, both scoring only twice.

Defending champions SuperSport United brought Siyabonga Nkosi home from Israeli side Maccabi Netanya at the beginning of the season. He has been impressive in patches but has been hampered by injury .

A good catch for United coach Gavin Hunt was stylish former Black Leopards midfielder Jabulani Maluleke. Emile Baron has made competition healthy in the goalkeeping department.

Thandani Ntshumayelo has also added a new dimension in the midfield after the 17-year-old was promoted from the development team.

United won't be making any changes to the squad.

Orlando Pirates are still believed to be courting skilful Bloemfontein Celtic linkman Mark Mayambela to add to their big squad. Bucs spokesperson Mickey Modisane would not say yesterday if they would be offloading any players.

Gert Schalkwyk was unveiled by Pirates at the beginning of the season amid euphoria, but not much has been seen of the former Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs player. He is out for the rest of the season due to injury.

Andile Jali and Phenyo Mongalo have continued the fine form they displayed in the Nedbank Cup with University of Pretoria. Left-back Mzondi Mthombeni is also promising.

Whoever brought striker Knowledge Musona to the Chiefs camp deserves a pat on the back. The Zimbabwean has shown signs of maturity in Naturena and troubles opposition defenders. Age is also on his side.

Despite misgivings when he joined from the relegated Thanda Royal Zulu, the burly Nkosinathi Nhleko has proved to be effective at Chiefs. Arthur Bartman has also been a more than capable deputy for Itumeleng Khune in goal.

Mamelodi Sundowns are rumoured to be chasing a Cameroonian and a local player before tomorrow's registration deadline. The arrival at the beginning of the season of Elias Pelembe at Chloorkop from cross-town rivals United has given Bulgarian coach Hristo Stoitchkov options in attack. Lebohang Mokoena is also doing well when given a run.

Mabhuti Khenyeza might not be scoring, but he is a good provider. Downs also did well to rope in Brazilian defender Eduardo Ferreira from Ajax Cape Town, who have renewed ties with Nathan Paulse. Paulse is on loan from Swedish side Hammarby IF.

Lerato Chabangu has made the wrong headlines, while Matthew Pattison, signed from English club Norwich City, has added impetus to the team.

The league's upstarts, Mpumalanga Black Aces made a good buy when they brought on Mpho Maleka from Free State Stars. Maleka has scored three times in seven starts.

Clifford Mulenga has not been disappointing nor were Shere Lekgothoane and Sibusiso Themba.

Fabian McCarthy is training with Aces with a hope of securing a contact. Aces have confirmed the signing of Darrel Smith from Bloemfontein Celtic. They have also signed midfielder Jeffrey Makoti from Maritzburg United.

Sepeke Manamela, Esau Mtshweni, William Yabeun, Bongani Zulu, Tsepho Gumede and Chibuzar Ninogho have been put on transfer, the club confirmed.
