DA marches peacefully

OPPOSITION leader Helen Zille received a warm welcome at the only DA-run municipality in Gauteng on her "open opportunity" tour.

Zille, who had her public address disrupted last week in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria, marched through the streets of Midvaal municipality without any disruptions on Friday.

She commended the Midvaal municipality for good governance and transparency and accused the ANC of using a crony system in running municipalities.

Zille accused the ANC of appointing officials based on political connections and not expertise.

"Service delivery suffers because of this inept officials and councillors concerned with their political survival and personal enrichment. They cannot deliver services," she said.

She said the ANC had shut down council debate and cooked the books to cover up what was really going on.

"The ANC does not have an open opportunity system, they do not advertise jobs. They give them to their comrades," she said. - Luzuko Pongoma
