CONGRATULATIONS to the DA and Cope for thinking about a merger. That's where the future of parties other than the ANC lies.

CONGRATULATIONS to the DA and Cope for thinking about a merger. That's where the future of parties other than the ANC lies.

For as long as the ANC has no viable prospect of losing power during elections, it will never stop abusing the electorate and prostituting institutions of state.

It is to the benefit of the ANC to see the smaller parties remaining at each other's throats for the crumbs left on the table after every election.

The Malemas of this world and other holier-than-thou characters will be unleashed to denounce and demonise the parties and personalities involved in this project.

I urge those involved to stay the course and find more common ground in what unites them.

The ANC itself brought about the demise of the NNP for the Marthinus van Scalkwyks of today to revive their political fortunes.

Only the politically naïve and ignorant will wish the DA and Cope eternal aridity in opposition politics. Politics is about power as well as the patronage ensured by the said power.

Even the ANC will be proud of retaining power after beating a formidable opposition at the polls in every election and not the also-rans guaranteed by the multiplicity of small parties who on their own will never even pose a threat to the DA with its resources, party activists and national footprint.

We have had enough of the rogue democracy underpinned by a cacophony of small no-hoper political parties who serve only as canon fodder for the ruling party to legitimise the inevitable outcome of every election.
