Two weeks to go

THE public has just more than two weeks in which to submit comments on how captive elephants should be treated.

THE public has just more than two weeks in which to submit comments on how captive elephants should be treated.

This follows the publication late last month of the Department of Environmental Affair's Draft Minimum Standards For the Management Of Captive Elephants, issued in terms of the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act.

The document can be viewed on the www.info.gov.za website. It deals with how elephants should be kept in captivity, and the organisations that are permitted to do so. - Sapa
