THE University of Limpopo has received money to hand out as bursaries to six of its students, thanks to the South African Reserve Bank.

The bank has donated a cheque worth R167493 to be distributed as bursaries for six students from various faculties.

This is part of SARB's external bursary scheme, the aim of which is to fund 27 academically deserving students from institutions of higher learning.

The bursary covers tuition, stationery, accommodation and meals, for the period of the students' study at the university, provided they excel academically.

SARB deputy governor Renosi Mokate presented the cheque at UL's Turfloop Campus on Tuesday.

She said they had opted to fund UL students as part of the bank's mission of contributing to human capital development.

Accepting the cheque UL's vice-chancellor Mahlo Mokgalong said: "It is not everybody who gets this kind of opportunity. I hope you will not disappoint the SARB."

The beneficiaries are Thoriso Yvonne Phenyane, Khutso Mokami Pono Mamakoko, Jeffrey Khoza, Nhlamulo Majoko and Mokgadi Letsoalo.
