In fact, they dismissed the idea early this week. But if truth be told, the past few weeks have been difficult for Hlatshwayo.
His sponsor threatened him with a court order for abandoning them without their knowledge and he chose his 13th-ranked German foe only three weeks ago from a list of three names given by promoter Branco Milenkovic.
"The physical aspect of preparing is the most difficult department to deal with, and we did that a long time ago," said Manny Fernandez, his trainer.
"Three weeks was enough to sharpen his skills, so we are ready."
Zaveck said he signed on the dotted line on November 8. His trainer, Dirk Dzemski, said his charge had been in the gym for the past four months.
"Jan was preparing for a fight that never happened. We did not think twice when the offer came. Isaac has never been in the ring with a determined fighter like Jan," Dzemski said.
Blow by Blow will broadcast this fight at 10pm.
Hlatshwayo, 32, from Shisasi Village in Limpopo, has 29 wins (10 KOs), a draw and a loss; while Zaveck, 33, who is based in Magdeburg, Germany, has 27 wins (15 KOs) and one defeat.
Meanwhile, Phillip "Time Bomb" Ndou and Oscar "Golden Boy" Chauke should have no difficulties against little- known Zimbabweans Ali Phiri and Peter Pambeni in their eight-rounders.
The pressure is on Beijing Olympian Jackson Chauke, who must impress Milenkovic's Branco Sports Productions.
He fights Sandile Mxabaniso over six rounds.
Blood could spill in a showdown between Warren Joubert and Patrick Masango in the lightweight class over six rounds. The action starts at 8pm.
