ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has blasted the top brass of the SA Communist Party and accused it of allowing its members to publicly humiliate him and brand him a capitalist.

Malema, whose recent acquisitions include a Johannesburg North townhouse, a Range Rover SUV and a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, took offence when delegates attending the SACP congress at the Turfloop campus of the University of Limpopo at Mankweng booed him and called him a mouthpiece for capitalists.

In the past, sections of the ruling alliance critical of the ANCYL's proposed nationalisation of mines have accused Malema of driving an agenda of BEE beneficiaries in the mining sector seeking de facto bailouts after their companies were put in distress by the recession.

The spat between Malema and the SACP leadership started when the youth league firebrand demanded to address the congress after he and ANC national executive member Billy Masetlha were booed by the delegates.

Malema later left the venue prematurely, protesting that the atmosphere was not conducive to his participating in the discussions.

"You invite people and then you humiliate them," Malema said.

Malema accused Mantashe of failing to provide leadership and intervening when the delegates booed both him and Masetlha.

"He should have been more forthright with the delegates . from a point of view of chairing a meeting I was highly disappointed."

Earlier delegates sang songs accusing the two of supporting a capitalist agenda.

The youth league boss blamed both SACP chairman Gwede Mantashe and SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande for failing to protect them from the verbal onslaught.

When the pair was acknowledged as official guests they were also booed by the delegates.

Mantashe refused to give Malema the platform arguing that only ANC president Jacob Zuma has been afforded the platform to address the congress. Zuma is to address the congress tomorrow.
