A 29-YEAR-OLD man was arrested yesterday for trying to break open an ATM in Ennerdale, Gauteng, police said.

Inspector Kinnie Steyn said the police received a call that a gang were breaking open an ATM in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"Members of the serious and violent crime unit and Ennerdale police caught them red-handed," said Steyn.

When the gang saw the police approaching they fled.

"They had already broken through the ATM's door and were cutting the safe door open with a grinder.

"We also seized a Mazda 323 and the grinder they used," Steyn said. - Sapa
