Amajita prepare to defend Cosafa title

AMAJITA will be watching today's Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Championship Group C final game between Botswana and Lesotho in Eldorado Park with keen interest.

AMAJITA will be watching today's Metropolitan Cosafa Under-20 Championship Group C final game between Botswana and Lesotho in Eldorado Park with keen interest.

The winners of this clash will meet the South African Under-20 national side in a semifinal match at the same venue on Sunday.

The junior Zebras need to win this match by no less than three goals without conceding to finish on top of the group ahead of Zimbabwe.

"Zimbabwe and Botswana are very strong, but we are ready to deal with either of them in the semifinal," said Amajita's manager Winston Marumo.

"We are all going to watch the game, which will help us in terms of the preparations for the semifinals. There is a strong possibility that we will meet Zambia in the final."

Amajita finished their group stages with six points after winning their two matches. They completed the campaign after the Comores failed to turn up for the tournament.

Amajita's interim coach Maqsood Chenia has selected three youngsters who were part of the team that featured in the World Youth Championships in Egypt last month.

They are Thulani Ngcepe, Collen Zulu and Dino Ndlovu. Assisted by Farouk Khan, Chenia has also recalled dribbling wizard Masibusane Zongo. Zongo, whose trickery in the midfield has worked wonders for Amajita in the tournament, is expected to win the player of the tournament award after the final match on Tuesday.

In other final group matches, Madagascar take on Swaziland in Group B at 3pm at Dobsonville Stadium, needing to win by two goals or more to oust Mozambique.

Namibia play the Seychelles in Group A at 5pm with only pride at stake. In Group D, Zambia meet Angola in Eldorado Park at 2.30pm, needing only a draw to qualify for the semifinals.
