THIRTEEN people, among them children, have drowned in Gauteng since Monday, provincial water police said.

THIRTEEN people, among them children, have drowned in Gauteng since Monday, provincial water police said.

"Police were also called out to 150 other drowning scenes since January," said Superintendent Eugene Opperman yesterday.

"People should always take water safety very seriously, otherwise many lives will again be lost over the festive season," he said.

Police started their festive season policing operations at dams, rivers and lakes throughout the province yesterday. The operations would run until January 8. - Sapa
