MARITZBURG United recorded a well-deserved 2-0 win over lacklustre Bloemfontein Celtic in a tightly contested Absa Premiership match at Seisa Ramabodu Stadium last night.

United drew blood first in the 7th minute via Rudolf Bester, who beat Celtic's goal-keeper Patrick Tignyemb hands down with a blistering header from a cross.

Celtic raised the tempo and created a few chances but they could not penetrate the visitors' solid defence.

On a half-hour mark the hosts squandered two clear-cut chances.

Tlou Segolela and Thembile Kanono failed to convert with only goalkeeper Shuaib Walters to beat.

The visitors doubled the lead in the 36th minute through Kurt Lentjies. It was long-range thunderbolt from a set-piece taken by Bagetta Dikilu.

Celtic coach Owen da Gama introduced Sandile Ndlovu for midfielder Kanono in an effort to change the complexion of the game.

However, United were unstoppable as they continued to attack with their danger man Bester causing havoc up-front.

He came close to scoring a brace in the 55th minute, but his attempt hit the cross-bar with Tignyemb well-beaten.

Ndlovu came close in the 60th minute but Walters made a splendid save. In the 86th minute, Moses Spandeel had his close-range attempt thwarted by Walters, who also denied Prince Olomu four minutes later.
