During the commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day in Pretoria yesterday, Minister of Public Service and Administration Richard Baloyi said South Africa was instrumental in assisting the DRC to hold its first conference on fighting corruption.
The conference is to be held next week.
"DRC is interested in our corruption-fighting mechanisms and they have also asked us to help them with the code of conduct for their public servants."
Asked how South Africa could assist other countries fight corruption when it had scored so badly on the index, Baloyi said: "We should not be number peddlers. Let us fight corruption.
"It is like chasing lizards when you are being attacked by crocodiles.
"Nobody knows which criteria the organisations use to reach these conclusions." - Sipho Masombuka
