Bok 7s hope to make up for Dubai flop in George

AFTER their disappointing showing in the IRB Sevens World Series in Dubai last weekend, the Springbok Sevens will bank on the home crowd to inspire them in the second round of the showpiece this weekend.

The tournament will be staged in George, Western Cape, tomorrow and Saturday and will also include England, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, Russia, Tunisia and Kenya.

The Springboks, who are the defending champions, surprisingly bowed out of the tournament before the quarterfinals in Dubai.

South African fans are still disappointed that the Boks did not play like world beaters, as they managed to collect only eight points throughout the tournament.

But coach Paul Treu believes they have an excellent opportunity to make up for last weekend's disappointing showing and lift the trophy.

He said the presence of the passionate home crowd will also inspire the players to give their best shot.

"The supporters were really fantastic last year and I am expecting the same (tomorrow) and Saturday.

"Any team will tell you that nothing beats the feeling of playing in front of your own crowd," the SA coach said.

He further said the Dubai failure will not compel him to change his approach or his team's tactics.

The experienced Marius Schoeman is back in action after recovering from a calf injury.

South Africa will take on France at 1.54pm, Zimbabwe at 5pm and Kenya at 8.38pm tomorrow.

Series log leaders New Zealand will play Samoa at 12.26pm, United States at 3.32pm and Wales at 7.54pm.

Other games: Scotland vs Argentina, England vs Tunisia, Wales vs United States, Fiji vs Portugal, Australia vs Russia, Kenya vs Zimbabwe, Scotland vs Tunisia, England vs Argentina, Wales vs Samoa, Fiji vs Russia, Australia vs Portugal, Kenya vs France.
