A STRIKE by the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers' Union (Saccawu) at hotel operator Sun International entered its fifth day yesterday.

The strike was "to push for wage increases, improvement of terms and conditions of employment and other related issues", the union said.

Saccawu said more than 70percent of its members employed at the group were on strike.

"Despite exercising the discipline associated with our struggles . we have seen the use of police violence in attempts to provoke violence and discredit our strike."

In response, Sun International said it had exercised its right to enforce a lock-out of bargaining unit members at its Fish River Sun, GrandWest and Boardwalk properties.

A CCMA conciliation meeting with the union will take place tomorrow," it said. - Sapa
