THE police have asked the community to help them with information that might lead to the arrest of the person who damaged an ATM at the Thulamahashe shopping complex near Bushbuckridge on Monday night.

The ATM was apparently smashed with an iron rod in an attempt to get to the money.

Security guards at the complex told the police they heard sounds and went to investigate shortly before midnight.

"A man was seen running away from scene, leaving the iron rod he had used to damage the machine behind," Mhala police spokesperson Constable Robert Makhubela said.

"We have opened a case of malicious damage to property and we are appealing to anyone with information that might assist us in our investigations to come forward." s

He said no money was taken from the ATM but the culprit left his iron rod on the scene when he ran away.
