POLICE have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.

POLICE have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl.

The incident allegedly happened at Sepanapudi village near Lebowakgomo on Monday last week.

Police spokesperson Captain Mamphaswa Seabi said the suspect was arrested yesterday morning.

He said the suspect, who is known to the victim's family, had allegedly gone to the girl's home to watch television.

According to Seabi, the boy stayed up after everyone in the house had gone to sleep.

The youth then allegedly entered the girl's bedroom and sexually assaulted her.

The parents were awoken by the girl's screams. When they entered the room the teen allegedly jumped out of the window and fled.

"The parents took the girl to a district surgeon, who confirmed penetration," said Seabi.

He said a case of rape was opened but the boy had fled the village.

"After receiving a tip-off we went to the youth's home at 2am yesterday. He was found at his home and was arrested.

The police spokesperson said the boy would appear in the Thabamoopo magistrate's court soon on a charge of rape.
