The deceased were burnt to death when a bus they were travelling in caught fire after a collision with a truck last Thursday.
Addressing mourners at the Mabusabesala showgrounds in Mashiding village, public works MEC Clifford Mukasi said the accident was "a wake-up call to the government" since it reminded them of the importance of the Moloto Rail Corridor.
The corridor is a project aimed at reducing accidents on the road through the use of the railway line.
"The Moloto Rail Corridor was supposed to be implemented at the beginning of this year, but we had to put it on hold due to financial constraints caused by the recession.
"We will look at ways of building a railway line between Siyabuswa and Pretoria," Mukasi said.
Putco spokesperson Raphiri Matsaneng said the company contributed R70000 to cover the costs of the funeral. - Sapa
