Insurance company responds

ON MONDAY we published an article with the headline " Hollard refuses to pay car claim", in which we said Sowetan was unable to get comment from the company.

ON MONDAY we published an article with the headline " Hollard refuses to pay car claim", in which we said Sowetan was unable to get comment from the company.

Bavni Meintjie, Hollard's public and media relations manager, has now responded.

Meintjie said Zamokuhle Ndimande's claim was rejected because his policy specified that the vehicle would be for private use only.

She explained that private use referred to social and domestic use as well as travelling to a permanent place of employment.

At the time of the accident Ndimande was travelling to the Gamalakhe township circuit offices to attend a meeting.

"He has also acknowledged regular trips to regional and district offices. As these are not his permanent place of employment, this is considered business use and therefore not covered by the policy," Meintjies said.

"Ndimande's travels to other offices puts the vehicle at higher risk and increases his risk profile. This in turn would have affected the premium as it this is calculated according to the risk," she said.

Ndimande insists that he told Hollard he would use the vehicle for both business and private purposes .
