IN an effort to encourage clean governance and jack up performance in municipalities the KwaZulu-Natal government will withdraw bonuses for councillors and managers of errant municipalities.

Provincial MEC for local government and traditional affairs Nomusa Dube warned yesterday that councillors and municipal managers presiding over errant municipalities will no longer receive salary increases or bonuses.

Dube made her announcement during a joint sitting of the executive of all municipalities under the Umzinyathi district municipality in Dundee, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
