SCHOOLS in the townships are under siege from thieves.

SCHOOLS in the townships are under siege from thieves.

Thugs have been targeting classrooms, stealing computers, furniture, gates, window and door frames.

As more schools get computers and get connected online, thieves are breaking into computer labs, stealing the expensive equipment.

"So far we have opened six burglary cases with the police," said Duma Khali, the chairperson of the school's governing body.

"At one point we found one of the gates uprooted and stolen."

His school, Bona Comprehensive School in Orlando East, Soweto, has not been spared by thieves.

They broke into the computer lab recently through the wall and stole a plasma TV and a printer.

In another incident yesterday, Diodi Primary School in Mapetla was broken into in the morning.

A computer and other office equipment were stolen.
