He was accompanied by president Sepp Blatter at Robben Island. The announcement followed a Fifa executive committee meeting.
This is 61percent more than what Italy, the reigning World Cup champions, took home in 2006. The runners-up will get $24million (R175million) while countries that finish third and fourth will be rewarded with $20million (R146million) and $18million (R131,5million) respectively.
"The increase is procedural as the prize money always go up each time the World Cup takes place," Valcke said.
Also benefiting will be the clubs from the 32 participating countries who will receive and share $40million.
"The money will be distributed through the players' national associations." Valcke said $1million had already been deposited.
Another notable decision was the committee's undertaking to increase the number of countries participating in Fifa's Women World Cup from 16 to 24, a groundbreaking move in recognition of progress made.
