New houses for poor families

CHRISTMAS came early for four destitute Limpopo families after the Greater Letaba Municipality and private companies gave them new houses yesterday.

The houses were handed over to the families by Mayor Godfrey "City" Modjadji during the council's Disability Day held at Lebaka Community Hall in Bolobedu North.

The four families who benefited from the emergency housing project are the Ramalepe family from Belleview and the Mashatola, Lebea and Makwala families from Mohlabaneng.

The five Ramalepe family members had shared a one- roomed makeshift shack made from bricks and papers.

The construction of their new three-roomed house started last month, shortly after the Batho Pele Day celebrations held in the area.

The other three families had lost their houses to heavy storms that ravaged the area early this year. Robert Mashatola, 68, died during the storm when the wall of his mud house fell on him while he was asleep.

The houses were built by Rivoni N&N Property Development and the Makgetsi Property Development at a cost of R48000 each.

Rivoni project manager Masingita Nkuna said they decided to build the houses for needy families as part of their social responsibility.
