Limpopo MEC for roads and transport Pinkie Kekana has ordered an investigation into allegations of corruption and abuse of state resources at the Roads Agency Limpopo in the area.
This after preliminary inquiries into the affairs of RAL indicated that awarding of tenders might have been manipulated to favour a few selected companies.
Kekana said an analysis showed that a total of seven companies received 90 percent of road infrastructure projects from the agency in the past two financial years.
One of the companies was awarded tenders worth R440million within two years.
"The pattern of questionable deals done under the previous boards points to a collapse or weakness of governance structures at RAL," said Kekana.
She said new board chairperson Sello Rasethaba was consulting with the board to consider undertaking a forensic audit into the affairs of RAL.
Among the findings were that road infrastructure tenders worth more than R100million were awarded to companies owned by members of the previous board.
But when contacted yesterday, former board chairperson Sugar Makwela said he could not comment on the matter before studying the accusations levelled against the board.
