THE stage is set for another wedding between total strangers. Yesterday Mary chose Tshepo to be her groom on December 11 in the2 Strangers and a Wedding competition.

Mary and Tshepo who have never seen each other, but who have shared the same physical space while on chaperoned dinner dates, will be tying the knot at a lavish ceremony at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown in Johannesburg, next Friday.

"We are expecting 300 guests who include immediate family members of the bride and groom as well as the other potential grooms and brides," said Helen Gouws, project manager of the experiment.

"A number of celebrities and the media have also been invited to witness this special event.

"The wedding is expected to cost something in the region of R1,8million in total," she said.

"Wedding gifts for Mary and Tshepo have been streaming into the office daily. We cannot determine the value as yet."

Mary, 27, who was selected by Kaya FM listeners and the 2 Strangers and a Wedding panel as the bride on November 18, went through the gruelling task of publicly interviewing her three prospective grooms live on air to ascertain if there was chemistry. Tshepo, Mandla and Bradley made the final cut.

Mary describes her ideal partner as someone who is honest, God-fearing, ambitious, loving, thoughtful and generous.

Her groom-to-be, 36-year-old Tshepo, describes himself as loving, caring, kind, reliable, loyal, responsible, honest and trustworthy.

Only time will tell if the pair will succeed where last year's couple, Gail Brookstein and Derrick Matthee, failed.

They were married on May 30 2008 and divorced three months later, raising doubts on whether such unions are necessary.

The 2 Strangers and a Wedding concept, which debuted on Australia's 2DayFM and SAfm radio stations in 1998, is being run for the second year in a row.

The 2 Strangers and a Wedding contest is a social experiment in which hopeful romantics contest live on the airwaves for the ultimate prize of winning a stranger's heart.

Eligible contestants went through a series of tests to assess their physical and mental health as well as personality profiling and compatibility.
