Girl (7) raped at school in Soweto

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl was raped during school hours at a primary school in Soweto on Monday, police said yesterday.

Inspector Kay Makhubele said the girl's mother noticed she was bruised and bleeding when she fetched her from school on that day.

"She was taken to a doctor who confirmed that she had been raped. The suspect is unknown but the police are still investigating the matter," Makhubele said.

He said a rape docket had already been opened.

Meanwhile in an unrelated incident, the Green Scorpions uncovered two more sites of buried medical waste in Welkom, Free State, yesterday.

The sites were on Jonkerus Farm and the Welkom Showgrounds, said Sonnyboy Bapela, chief director for the Green Scorpions.

"It's a crime scene now. Each waste site is about 10 metres across. The site on the showgrounds is at least two metres deep.

"Further excavation was made impossible due to windy conditions," said Bapela.

He said investigators had reburied the waste until a suitable solution for disposal, either a certified landfill or incinerator, was found. - Sapa-AFP
