LABOUR Minister Membathisi Mdladlana told Parliament yesterday that his department intends to introduce amendments to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Employment Equity Act and the Labour Relations Act.

LABOUR Minister Membathisi Mdladlana told Parliament yesterday that his department intends to introduce amendments to the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, the Employment Equity Act and the Labour Relations Act.

Giving a written reply to a question from Pierre Rabie of the DA, the minister said the process of considering amendments to these acts was starting under the auspices of the National Economic Development and Labour Advisory Council.

"These amendments are not primarily a response to the current recession although some might have relevance to job security."

He repeated that the department's response to the economic recession would be through the Framework Response, first announced in February.

"In particular, the department has set aside R2,4billion for a National Jobs Fund, drawn from the National Skills Fund and the Unemployment Insurance Fund, to fund a training layoff scheme," he said. - I-Net Bridge
