Cope rebels to meet

DIVISIONS within Cope took a new twist this week with a group of disgruntled members announcing a special conference in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal, this weekend.

DIVISIONS within Cope took a new twist this week with a group of disgruntled members announcing a special conference in Greytown, KwaZulu-Natal, this weekend.

The group, which claims to be made up of Cope members from all provinces, said the bosberaad would be a Cope consultative congress.

National Cope spokesperson Phillip Dexter said the political newcomer did not recognise the group, adding that its emergence did not mean camps were emerging.

"If people have issues then they must be afforded the right to raise these in Cope structures," he said.

The group charged this week that South Africans would witness history in the making "as members of the organisation take action to claim our party back".

The group said it would use the congress to raise funds for SRC elections as part of a drive to attract the youth.

Previously, Cope members were divided over who should lead the party.
