CHEETAHS utility back JW Jonker and Griffons wing Cecil Afrika are likely to make their debuts for the Springboks Sevens, who begin their IRB Sevens World Series defence against Wales on Friday.

The two promising youngsters were called up to the team by coach Paul Treu last week.

The talented Afrika has recovered from the injuries that prevented him from playing a part in last season's series success. Jonker has been given a new lease of life after warming the bench for the Cheetahs for almost the entire season.

MJ Mentz has been recalled to fortify the team after playing in Italy last season. Said Treu: "It is going to be a difficult competition. As the series' defending champions, all the teams will be after our scalp ."

The Boks squad: Mpho Mbiyozo, Chase Minnaar, Frankie Horne, Afrika, Neil Powell, Kyle Brown, Jonker, Ryno Benjamin, Paul Delport (captain), Mzwandile Stick, Marius Schoeman, Mentz.
