THE prosecutor in the murder case of a Lenasia, southern Johannesburg, man who was killed before his body was mutilated has called for life imprisonment for the killers.

Advocate Lwazi Ngodwana told the Johannesburg high court yesterday that the killers of Johannes Simon Banda "behaved like animals" when committing the crime.

Judge Lucy Mailula convicted Xolani Kubheka and Simphiwe Khanyile of murder on October 6. Banda, 30, was murdered in 2006 while walking back home from a shebeen with his killers. His headless body was found in the veld by Lenasia residents after being there for more than a month. His genitals were never recovered.

Sentencing is expected today. - Mfundekelwa Mkhulisi
