Sundowns net keeper Sandilands

MAMELODI Sundowns have acquired the services of Platinum Stars goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands.

MAMELODI Sundowns have acquired the services of Platinum Stars goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands.

Sundowns spokesperson Alex Shakoane confirmed yesterday that the Brazilians have secured the goalkeeper's signature for the next three seasons.

"If you look at the number of games we have been playing, and the toll they can have on players, a pool of players for all positions is needed to avoid certain situations," Shakoane said.

Sandilands will face stiff competition from Brian Baloyi, Calvin Marlin and Jackson Mabokgoane, and will give coach Hristo Stoichkov another option.

The goalie, who has been at the top of his game for a number of years for Platinum Stars, was linked with Kaizer Chiefs early this year but the deal was taken off the table at the last moment.

Stars chairperson George Khunou denied any knowledge of the move, saying "that subject was not discussed".

Sandilands has been with the North West team since the 2004-2005 season.

"It was said I left a team that has been my home for many years but I'm happy to be joining a team as big as Sundowns," Sandilands said.

The keeper is the second player to join the Brazilians in the transfer window period, after former Ajax Cape Town defender Fernando Ferrero.
