CAIRO - Former France manager Henri Michel was fired yesterday by an African club for the second time this year when he was dismissed by Egypt's Zamalek after a weekend defeat, the club said.

Michel, who was sacked in April by Mamelodi Sundowns after a six-month spell, left the Cairo club just 10 matches into the new season after Sunday's 2-0 loss to Police Union.

It was the fourth defeat for the Cairo giants under the French manager, leaving Zamalek 15 points behind leaders Al-Ahly.

Michel was manager of France when they finished third at the 1986 World Cup finals but has spent the past decade working in Africa and the Middle East. - Reuters
