Watch weight, Funeka

BOXING legend Dingaan Thobela said yesterday he hoped Ali Funeka was within the weight limit before he jetted off to Canada.

BOXING legend Dingaan Thobela said yesterday he hoped Ali Funeka was within the weight limit before he jetted off to Canada.

With Canada being extremely cold at this time of the year, Thobela is worried that it could be difficult for Funeka to shed extra kilograms.

Funeka will take on undefeated Joan Guzman - a fighter from the Dominican Republic - tomorrow night for the vacant IBF lightweight belt.

The fight, at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec, will be presented by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions.

"I have been there before and it was verydifficult for me,"said Thobela, who lost the WBC super middleweighttitle in Canada to Dave Hilton in December 2000.

Funeka, from East London, has never been exposed to such conditions.

Nate Campbell was forced to abandon the IBF belt before his defence against Funeka in the US in February, after failing to make the weight. He won the fight nonetheless .

Thobela said Funeka should not "let the judges decide" the outcome of the fight.

"He has the punch to do it early," he said.
