MORE than 1000 security personnel will be deployed in and around Durban's 2010 Fifa World Cup Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
This is to ensure that everything runs smoothly when the city hosts the derby between AmaZulu and Maritzburg United.
AmaZulu head of security Qedi Dlamini said: "We are anticipating a huge turnout, so we are ensuring that we have enough security personnel on the day.
"We encourage people to go to the stadium to enjoy the football. Knowing that the stadium is still new they must have patience with the security personnel and all those who are there to assist them."
Julie-May Ellingson, head of the strategic projects unit and the 2010 programme, urged fans to read their ticket carefully since the stadium has no "sit anywhere" policy.
"Your ticket will tell you in what sector and what block you will be seated," she said.
"So if your ticket reads 'Sector Yellow Block 128' that means you can sit anywhere in Block 128 in the that sector.
"We understand this practice might be unfamiliar to many fans but there will be ushers on hand to guide ticket-holders to their seats."
The stadium has been built to seat 70 000 fans during the 2010 World Cup.
"This is a great moment for the city," said mayor Obed Mlaba. "It fills me with a pride I know is shared by all the people of Durban."
