Speaking at a housing settlement meeting in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, Sexwale said his department was hot on the heels of corrupt officials.
According to the Special Investigation Unit, which heads the department's audit task team, 800 of those arrested were in national and provincial government, and 123 in local government.
The SIU said it had dedicated a special team to investigate housing fraud. - Sapa
