Entries were cut off at the 20000 mark earlier this month but yesterday Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) chairperson Dave Dixon announced that a further 2000 entries will be accepted.
"After careful consideration and the weighing of appeals from hundreds of runners and interest groups, the CMA board, in consultation with key stakeholders, decided to reopen entries for a limited number. Entries will open on January 30 at 9am," he said.
The entries will be accepted only at Mr Price clothing, sport and home stores countrywide.
In order to work on a fair first come, first served basis, no fax, postal or online entries will be accepted.
"This has not been an easy decision for the CMA, as we do not want to send mixed messages to our runners or compromise the decision-making process, but we do have an obligation to all the athletes and CMA stakeholders to ensure that the 85th anniversary race is a true celebration," Dixon said.
