IF the South African Communists Party really believes it can fool everyone all the time then it has lost a ball in high weeds.
Their call for the prosecution of Thabo Mbeki on genocide charges has nothing to do with Mbeki's refusal to roll out antiretroviral drugs. Unfortunately this boisterous call is just another blatant smoke- screen.
The truth is that the SACP believes that Mbeki was an accomplice in the death of Chris Hani in 1993.
So you don't have to be an actuarial scientist to see that the calls for Mbeki to be charged are based on revenge.
In Hani, the SACP had a real chance of occupying the presidential position of the country. The plan was for Hani to succeed Nelson Mandela in 1999, but Hani's assassination undermined the SACP's hopes of ascending to the presidency.
To add insult to injury Mbeki called the SACP to order on a number of occasions and even hinted that the SACP and the ANC might have to annul their marriage at some point.
SACP general secretary Blade Nzimande subsequently said that Mbeki would not be missed after he was "recalled," as president of the republic.
The reason the ANC Youth League has responded with such wrath is that the SACP also seeks to claim the victory over Mbeki in Polokwane.
Unfortunately the ANC seems to have been caught in this smoke-screen and there seems to be no chance in heaven that Mbeki will be charged with genocide.
