Yesterday it was apparent that the end is near for Ndlovu.
This after the institution's council resolved to take away two luxury vehicles that had been used by Ndlovu, who was suspended on full pay since December last year.
Ndlovu was subsequently placed on compulsory leave in August this year.
He was suspended after allegations of financial mismanagement, corruption and abuse of power at the institution.
Yesterday the council also revealed that the process to bring stability at the institution has cost more than R4million.
Council chairperson Judge Jerome Ngwenya said since the new council took over in June, with substantially new external members, great strides had been made.
He said disciplinary proceedings against Ndlovu started in July and are still in progress.
"His emoluments have been reviewed and adjusted appropriately. And the position of vice-chancellor has been advertised and will be filled hopeful in the first half of 2010."
He said a forensic report has confirmed some of the findings by the independent assessor and also revealed a "fair amount of abuse of power, absence of clear policies and failure by Ndlovu".
A forensic investigation by PricewaterhouseCoopers into the affairs of the institution was commissioned in January this year.
The investigation uncovered problems in the administration, management and with loan accounts, salaries and expenditure at executive level.
It also unearthed irregularities related to the employment of unqualified people.
Ndlovu's suspension was amended in June 2009 to be one without pay following the appointment of Jonathan Jansen as an administrator in February.
Jansen has since left the institution to head the University of Free State. Mashupye Kgaphola was subsequently appointed to succeed Jansen.
Ngwenya said the council also appointed a special committee to attend and finalise the appeal by Sadesmo who contested the SRC election and lost.
He said about 34 academic and administration posts have been approved. Ndlovu earns more than R1million a year.
His contract will expire next month while his disciplinary hearing is in progress.
