House for ID victim family

THE government is expected to hand over a house to the family of Sikhumbuzo Mhlongo who committed suicide after being refused an identity document.

THE government is expected to hand over a house to the family of Sikhumbuzo Mhlongo who committed suicide after being refused an identity document.

The house would be handed over today by Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Social Development Minister Edna Molewa, Premier Zweli Mkhize and social development MEC Mishack Radebe, said social development spokesperson Sifiso Buthelezi.

In a suicide letter, Mhlongo accused a Pinetown home affairs official of tearing up his application for an ID book, preventing him from getting a job.

In his letter Mhlongo, of Nqetho outside Pinetown, also claimed that he could not get an identity document because he was not accompanied by his parents.

His parents died when he was still young.

Two home affairs officials have since been dismissed in connection with the incident. - Sapa
