Gospel music for the needy

A TOUR that will cover all nine provinces will be officially launched in style with a music concert on December 5.

The concert, which features South Africa's bestselling gospel artistes, will take place at the Oasis of Life Family Church in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

Fans will be entertained by artistes such as Benjamin Dube, Hlengiwe Mhlaba and Nana Mhlongo. Peace Sibanyoni, one of the organisers, said they had started the project, which involves the churches, to ease the unbearable situation faced by many poor communities.

"We feel it is high time the churches take their rightful place in society as a platform of poverty alleviation by giving back to their neighbourhoods," he said.

"We are determined that the churches should play a vital role in building and strengthening the moral fibre of society.

"This initiative seeks to maximise the hand of the churches from just touching the hearts and souls of those who are able to attend the Sunday services."

He said the idea was to make the event an annual thing so that the churches could be actively involved in the social development of the community.

"Church members are expected to bring gifts or anything that can be of assistance to the needy."

Tickets are available from Computicket at R100 and R150.
