Polokwane craving PSL action

THE absence of a Premiership club in Limpopo is a cause for concern for Premier Cassel Mathale and the provincial government.

THE absence of a Premiership club in Limpopo is a cause for concern for Premier Cassel Mathale and the provincial government.

A passionate soccer fan, Mathale said they would soon engage club owners in the province to deal with the challenges hampering their progress.

Mathale said the government was working as a collective to ensure that the recently completed Peter Mokaba Sports Complex in Polokwane does not become a white elephant after next year's World Cup.

"We are concerned there is no Limpopo team in the Premiership. We need to sit down with club owners because we feel that some of them are not running their affairs properly.

"Our people must start running their soccer clubs as businesses, soccer is now big business. That also means club bosses must start paying their players good salaries.

"We are happy to see Dynamos and Black Leopards doing well in the First Division, it will be a bonus for Limpopo to have two clubs in the Premiership next season.

"We will support any initiative to help improve professionalism in our game."

Polokwane mayor Thabo Makunyane said they will have a few big games to test the new stadium's readiness for the World Cup.
