THE case against Orlando Pirates soccer star Gert Schalkwyk was withdrawn by the State on a technicality in the Westonaria magistrate's court yesterday, a court official said.

THE case against Orlando Pirates soccer star Gert Schalkwyk was withdrawn by the State on a technicality in the Westonaria magistrate's court yesterday, a court official said.

"There were problems in that ... there was no certificate from the director of public prosecutions authorising such footage," said the official. "This was a technical problem."

The 27-year-old midfielder was caught last month allegedly driving at 198kmh on the N12 freeway in Gauteng and was charged with reckless driving. - Sapa
