AN URGENT court application to stop the Ukweshwama ritual, during which men kill bulls with their bare hands, was postponed to December 1 to allow King Goodwill Zwelithini and other respondents to file their papers.

Animal Rights Africa (ARA) went to the Pietermaritzburg high court yesterday to stop the ritual, arguing it was cruel. The ceremony is to take place on December 5 in Nongoma.

Other respondents are the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sicelo Shiceka, Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa, Premier Zweli Mkhize and traditional affairs MEC Nomusa Dube. - Sapa
