THE arts now stand to benefit from the MTN Foundation's funds earmarked for small businesses, health, education and other sectors.

The arts stand to benefit millions of rands as they have been allocated 8percent of the grants. This information is contained in the MTN Foundation's strategy document recently launched at a glittering function at the Theatre on the Track in Midrand.

And perhaps to just demonstrate the importance of the arts, the function saw musicians Selaelo Selota, Gloria Bosman and dancers from Moving Into Dance perform alongside up-and-coming artists.

At the launch, the foundation also announced its new members of the board led by academic and author Njabulo Ndebele.

The retired vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town is the new chairperson of the MTN Foundation.
