POLICE arrested a man and woman in Eldorado Park, south of Johannesburg, at the weekend for allegedly dealing in drugs.

Police arrested the two after a tip-off from members of the community in the area.

"Police got a call from a member of the community that there were people selling drugs to the public at a house in Extension 8," police spokesperson Captain Philemon Khorombi said.

Khorombi said police from the Gauteng Rapid Response Unit raided the premises on Saturday and arrested a 32-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man.

"When they searched the place they found R33000 in cash, six cellphones, a laptop, a digital camera, a camcorder, cocaine, mandrax and heroin," said Khorombi.

He said the two were surprised inside a caravan. "We cannot say at this stage if they are the owners of the house or renting the caravan."

He also could not say if the arrested people were related.

Khorombi said drug usage was rife in Eldorado Park, especially among the youth.

"We are working with different structures such as the community policing forum, patrollers and community members to curb this kind of problem. The response from these structures is commendable and we appreciate their contribution in minimising crime in Eldorado Park," said Khorombi.

The two are expected to appear in court soon.
