SUPERSPORT United Feyenoord Academy are the 2009 Gauteng Under-17 Future Cup champions.

SUPERSPORT United Feyenoord Academy are the 2009 Gauteng Under-17 Future Cup champions.

The junior Matsatsantsa a Pitori achieved the feat after defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 in the final at the Hyundai Park in Pimville, Soweto, at the weekend.

Miguel Timm's goal made it possible for Feyenoord to win the tournament that was bankrolled by MEC Nelisiwe Mtimkulu-Mbatha's department of sport, arts and culture.

The game went into extra time after both teams were level 2-2. Goals were scored by Daylon Appolis and Ntando Zuma for SuperSport while Andile Nqabeni and Maselaelo Seanego netted for Chiefs.

It was the second time Amakhosi were defeated in the final. They lost to Moroka Swallows in the first edition of this tournament last year.

In the Safa regional teams category, Tshwane beat Johannesburg 2-1 in the final.

SuperSport, Chiefs, Tshwane and Johannesburg have qualified to represent South Africa in the international tournament in Soweto in January.

The tournament will also feature teams from Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Tunisia, Botswana and Nigeria.

Mbatha-Mtimkulu said: "The importance of this tournament is that it also helps to promote our youngsters to international soccer.

"We are confident some of them will represent Bafana Bafana during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil."

Safa Soweto chief executive Phil "Chippa" Mogodi sang Mtimkulu-Mbatha's praises.

"The support from the Gauteng government is highly appreciated," he said.
