COACH Innocent Mayoyo's football academy received a major boost at the weekend when Carnival City casino gave his academy a football kit sponsorship worth R125000.

The Ayoba-Yo Youth Football Academy was launched on September 6 this year. It has an intake of more than 70 youngsters.

The academy is based at the Phelang School in Kwa-Thema, Ekurhuleni.

A jubilant Mayoyo said the academy is the beginning of good things to come.

"This is a dream come true, not only for me but also for these children. We spent four years brainstorming and trying to get this project off the ground. I'm glad that it has finally happened," he said.

"There is so much talent in Ekurhuleni and I would like to see a team from this township or metro area campaigning in the Premier Soccer League in the near future."

The occasion on Sunday was graced by former Kaizer Chiefs great Nelson "Teenage" Dladla, himself a Kwa-Thema native.

"I think us having an academy here is long overdue and credit to Mayoyo for a job well done. This is good for the kids and they will learn a lot from the academy. I would also like to encourage them to make use of this wonderful opportunity," Dladla said.
