Coming from a man who has been a referee and PSL technocrat, Ncobo must not be allowed to mouth such serious allegations and then get away with remaining silent when probed further.
As things are, all 18 PSL clubs and the officials running the game stand accused of playing it less than fair.
Football does not exactly have the most stellar of reputations among the national sports codes. Still, corporates have invested millions of rand in clubs and the league. To say these companies are witting or unwitting accessories to corrupt activities without providing evidence for such comments is irresponsible in the extreme.
Ncobo must also remember that for millions of South Africans football is a staple. If he says South Africans spend their money and emotions on what is a sham, he owes it to them to substantiate these claims.
We remember vividly how former national coach Trott Moloto promised to reveal all after his sacking in September 2000. Needless to say, nine years on we are still waiting.
Ncobo must be careful not to go around opening Pandora's boxes when he has no interest in dealing with the consequences.
The PSL must call his bluff and demand that he put what he knows on the table or charge him with defamation if he cannot deliver. Ncobo must put up or shut up.
