KEEPING A PARTNER FROM CHEATING ...

COLLEAGUE who did an assignment at Johannesburg Prison, aka Sun City, tells how gorgeous and delicious the black male inmates are in the infamous detention centre.

She says she drooled throughout the prison tour while ogling the men in bright orange uniforms.

"Their complexions are amazing. They are well kept and well toned ... I swear I didn't see a single beer belly," she yelled.

"What's wrong with South Africa? Here I am miserably manless and childless, while there are handsome men locked behind bars," she moaned.

Figures show that out of 162053 men who are in South African prisons, 127046 are black.

Now, given that the population of South Africa is made up of about 60 women to one man, and about 10 percent of the male population is gay, what is a girl to do? Then there are the guys who don't have the desire or time for a relationship - the sick ones, gangsters, drug addicts and so on.

Out of these, South African women are left to scramble for the few remaining ones, including the married and those in stable relationships.

To make matters worse, says my colleague, the black foreign men are either married to their own kind or are being pushed away from us by our own insecure and xenophobic brothers.

"How the hell are we going to have men under these unfavourable conditions?" asks the visibly distressed colleague.

"Can you blame women who steal married men?"

With decent men in such great demand, how do you keep the one you're with from straying?

Cape Town-based marriage counsellor Yolisa Mendu says there are many different reasons why men stray. She says forces such as sexual attraction, companionship, excitement and curiosity can pull men towards affairs.

"Men are bombarded with images of women as sex objects in advertising and marketing campaigns. Over and over, the message to men is that the good life includes a procession of sexy women in their lives. Women inadvertently buy into this image and struggle to achieve it."

Mendu adds that the lack of good sex education and the existence of sexual taboos make it difficult to talk honestly about sex.

An infidelity poll conducted by WomanSavers.com reports that love and intimacy are the main reason why people have affairs, followed by sex, money and excitement.

The differences in why women and men have affairs are varied, with women seeking emotional fulfilment and most men seeking sexual fulfilment.
